Cádiz prepares for 2027 Carnival festivities and competition
Preparations for the 2027 Cádiz Carnival are underway, involving both the official competition and provincial cultural programming.
Regarding the Official Contest of Carnival Groups (COAC), rumors are circulating among rehearsal venues about a potential change to the start date. Currently scheduled for January 8, there is speculation that the event could begin as early as January 7 at the Gran Teatro Falla to accommodate a high number of participants. There are currently 185 groups registered, including 124 adult groups, 35 children's groups, and 26 youth groups, though final numbers are pending documentation verification. The Cádiz City Council is reviewing the schedule based on these registration figures.
Separately, the Provincial Culture Foundation of the Cádiz Deputation has opened a call for the management of carnival group resources for 2027. This initiative aims to facilitate carnival performances in municipalities with up to 50,000 inhabitants across the province between February 6 and March 14. The program is open to various modalities, including decoros, comparsas, chirigotas, and cuartetos, regardless of whether they participate in the official COAC competition.
