Cádiz water supply restored outside historic centre, tap water still unsafe inside

Aguas de Cádiz reports that the water turbidity problem affecting the city of Cádiz has been resolved in the outer districts, but residual cloudiness remains in several points of the historic centre. The company continues to advise residents not to drink or cook with tap water until all measurements confirm full clarity.

The issue originated from a break in the high‑pressure network of the Consorcio de Aguas de la Zona Gaditana and a subsequent pump shutdown, which left the city without supply for about an hour on the morning of 31 July. When service resumed, sediment was drawn into the pipes, causing the turbidity. Operators are conducting sector‑by‑sector monitoring, targeted pipe purges, and real‑time coordination with the Andalusian health authority.

Mayor Bruno García and urban‑development delegate José Manuel Cossi said the municipality is working on a second water connection—a bypass between the Arillo and Torregorda rivers—to provide redundancy. The project, budgeted at €10.4 million, is slated for completion within 12 months.
