Cádiz water supply and turbidity issues
Overview
Following a high-pressure network break and pump shutdown on 31 July, the city of Cádiz experienced water supply disruptions and subsequent turbidity. While water supply was restored to outer districts, residual cloudiness persisted in the historic centre, leading officials to advise against drinking or cooking with tap water until clarity was confirmed.
To prevent future issues, the municipality announced a €10.4 million project to create a second water connection bypass between the Arillo and Torregorda rivers, expected to be completed within 12 months.
By mid-August, Aguas de Cádiz issued further advisories regarding potential turbidity episodes in certain areas, specifically the historic district. These warnings were linked to ongoing maneuvers to normalize the hydraulic network. Although only seven reports of turbidity had been received among 45,000 subscribers, the utility maintained that residents should avoid consuming water that appears turbid.
