Ceará Gov. Elmano de Freitas Meets Leaders Ahead of 2026 Election

Governor Elmano de Freitas of Ceará declined to comment on rumours that the Federation Union Progressive – a bloc formed by União Brasil and Progressistas – might abandon its support for opposition candidate Ciro Gomes in the 2026 state elections, saying the matter is an internal discussion within the federation.

Later, at the closing night of the GranChitão 2026 festival in Granja, the governor joined a private gathering with regional leaders, including 13 mayors, about 200 municipal councilors, state deputies and federal deputies. The meeting, organized by Ceará Assembly president Romeu Aldigueri, focused on strategy for Elmano’s re‑election campaign and on strengthening the governing coalition in the north and west coastal regions of the state. The public portion of the event attracted over 74,000 attendees.
