Ceará reports 32% drop in deforestation in 2025

The MapBiomas Annual Deforestation Report for Brazil 2025 shows that the state of Ceará reduced its cleared area by 32.4%, falling from 40,066 hectares in 2024 to 27,077 hectares in 2025. Validated alerts also declined, dropping from 5,974 to 4,584 during the same period.

Nationally, Brazil’s deforestation fell 20.6% year‑on‑year, marking the first time the country stayed below one million hectares in a year. In the Caatinga biome, the area cleared fell 25.9% to 128,947 hectares. The state environmental agency Semace highlighted its use of remote‑sensing tools, the MapBiomas platform, and official databases such as CAR and Sinaflor to guide enforcement actions, including operations like “Caatinga Resiste” and “Mata Atlântica em Pé.”
