Pernambuco Governor Raquel Lyra Announces Major Health Infrastructure Investments

The Pernambuco state government, led by Governor Raquel Lyra, approved a R$198.1 million program to expand health services in the Agreste Meridional. The plan includes construction of a new maternity hospital in Garanhuns with a R$58.2 million budget, a new Hospital Mestre Dominguinhos funded with R$125.8 million, two early‑childhood education centers, and a new Complexo de Polícia Científica, all slated for completion between late 2026 and mid‑2027.

Separately, a ceiling collapse at the Hospital da Restauração in Recife injured a 61‑year‑old post‑operative patient, who required an emergency surgery and blood transfusion. State authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Images posted online also showed patients confined to corridors and wheelchairs at the Hospital Mestre Vitalino in Caruaru during Governor Lyra’s recent visit, highlighting ongoing capacity challenges in the state's public hospitals.
