Pernambuco health infrastructure expansion

In July 2026 the Pernambuco state government began expanding its public‑health capacity. On 21 July it inaugurated a R$ 6.1 million hemodynamics unit at Hospital Getúlio Vargas in Recife, adding advanced endovascular imaging and treatment capabilities for high‑complexity vascular procedures.

A week later Governor Raquel Lyra announced a broader R$ 198.1 million program to upgrade health services across the Agreste Meridional. The plan funds a new maternity hospital in Garanhuns (R$ 58.2 million), the construction of Hospital Mestre Dominguinhos (R$ 125.8 million), two early‑childhood education centres, and a new scientific police complex, with completion targeted for late 2026 to mid‑2027. The same announcement referenced a ceiling collapse at Hospital da Restauração in Recife that injured a patient, prompting an investigation, and highlighted ongoing capacity strains evident from patients confined to corridors at Hospital Mestre Vitalino during the governor’s visit.
