Celal Şengör attends JEOFEST '26 in Bornova
The JEOFEST '26 festival has commenced in Bornova, hosted by the Bornova Municipality. Renowned geologist Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör participated in the event, which includes a series of panels, concerts, and educational activities running through October 30.
During the event, Şengör visited the Smart City and Innovation Center, where he reviewed Bornova’s digital twin technology. He also expressed support for the Abide-i Hürriyet Square project presented by Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki. In a lecture titled “The Story of Stone is Our Story,” Şengör emphasized the critical link between geology and human civilization, stating, “Human civilization can only exist as long as geology allows it.”
A free “Stone and Human” exhibition, featuring fossil collections and gemological stones, is currently open to the public at the Uğur Mumcu Culture and Art Center.
