Celestial events: long total solar eclipse and planetary alignments

A significant total solar eclipse is scheduled for August 2, 2027. According to NASA calculations, this event will be one of the longest total solar eclipses of the 21st century, with the period of totality potentially lasting up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

The path of totality will cross the Atlantic Ocean, passing through southern Spain and North Africa. Specific countries in the shadow's path include Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, with particular interest focused on the Luxor region. The shadow will continue across the Red Sea toward the Arabian Peninsula, affecting parts of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia. In Hungary, only a partial solar eclipse will be visible.

Separately, astronomical observers can witness a celestial alignment in early November. On November 2, the star Regulus, Jupiter, Mars, and the Moon will appear in a straight line in the southeastern sky during dawn. This event marks the beginning of a two-month series of alignments involving Mars, Jupiter, and Regulus that will continue until December 26.
