Celina Leão accuses PT of politicizing Banco de Brasília crisis
Celina Leão, the Governor of the Federal District, has accused the Workers' Party (PT) of politicizing the financial crisis at Banco de Brasília (BRB). In a recent interview, Leão claimed the federal government denied a requested credit guarantee for the bank due to ideological and political reasons.
Leão contrasted the treatment of BRB with the financial support provided by President Lula's government to the Correios, arguing that the denial of the guarantee was an unnecessary obstacle. She also criticized her political opponent, Leandro Grass, questioning why he has not utilized his party's influence in the federal government to resolve the matter.
The Federal District government is currently seeking credit operations to strengthen BRB's cash reserves. The legal dispute regarding the federal guarantee is currently before the Supreme Federal Court (STF), under the rapporteurship of Minister Luiz Fux. Leão has ruled out privatization, stating that the government is exploring other financing alternatives, including potential investments from the United Arab Emirates.
