Celltrion launches joint biotech startup program with Japan’s KBIC

Celltrion has launched the ‘2026 KBIC-Celltrion Global Scale-up Program’ in collaboration with Japan’s largest bio-cluster, the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster (KBIC). This initiative marks the first public-private open innovation program co-planned and operated by a South Korean company and a Japanese bio-cluster.

The program aims to support promising biotech startups in transitioning from basic research and technology validation to global commercialization. Celltrion will provide mentoring and technical advisory services across the entire pharmaceutical lifecycle, including R&D, regulatory approval, production, and global commercialization. KBIC, through its operating agency the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation (FBRI), will offer customized accelerating programs covering R&D, intellectual property, investment attraction, and business strategy.

Applications are open from this month until December. Following document and presentation evaluations, two companies will be selected in March 2027 to participate in a year-long customized nurturing program. Target startups include those working in antibody, peptide, small molecule, and anti-aging fields that align with Celltrion’s technical needs. The partnership also intends to facilitate investment opportunities through one-on-one meetings with Korean investment institutions and demo days.
