Cemeteries in Argentina targeted by vandalism and theft

Multiple cemeteries in Argentina have been targeted by vandals and thieves in recent days. In Yapeyú, Corrientes, authorities reported that nine pantheons were damaged during a nighttime attack. The desecration included breaking doors, glass, and locks, with some coffins being moved and bodies left exposed. Police have identified two adult men as suspects and seized evidence, including a thermal cup found at the scene.

In the San Juan province, similar incidents have occurred in Jáchal and Rodeo. In Rodeo, families discovered broken niches, torn bronze doors, and destroyed glass, along with the theft of commemorative plaques and flower vases. This follows a recent attack in Pampa del Chañar, Jáchal, where doors were ripped off and plaques were stolen. Local residents in these areas are demanding increased security, night patrols, and better surveillance to prevent further desecration of memorial sites.
