Cemig expands Minas Gerais energy infrastructure with new substation and solar power deal

Cemig inaugurated Substation 3 in Divinópolis, investing over R$80 million in a 50 MVA facility that will increase local power capacity to serve up to 36 000 customers by early 2027, with 18 000 already connected. The project is presented as a boost to the city’s economic competitiveness and grid stability.

Through its solar‑subscription unit Cemig SIM, the utility signed a partnership with the Minas Gerais state government to provide solar electricity to about 6 700 public buildings, including schools and health units. The agreement is expected to cut the state’s electricity costs by roughly R$34 million per year and avoid more than 6 000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, supporting the government’s Race to Zero climate goals.
