Cemig and Minas Gerais Governor Mateus Simões Roll Out Energy Savings and Solar Programs

The Minas Gerais state government and utility Cemig announced several energy initiatives in June 2026. In Santa Maria de Itabira, Cemig began expanding the electric grid with a R$ 7 million investment to install new poles, relocate lines and add high‑voltage cables, improving supply stability and encouraging construction.

Governor Mateus Simões launched the "Economia para os Mineiros" program through Cemig SIM, a solar‑by‑subscription service that can cut household electricity bills by up to 26 % for customers whose monthly charge is up to R$ 300. The enrollment process is fully digital. "Vamos conseguir dar a muitas famílias um alívio no peso que a conta de luz representa no seu dia a dia," the governor said.

The administration also debuted the "Conta + Justa" campaign to raise awareness of social tariffs for water, sewage and electricity. Officials estimate that about 1.1 million Cemig customers and 718 000 Copasa users could benefit from discounts of up to 100 % on electricity and 65 % on water bills. "Hoje, temos um grande número de pessoas pagando a tarifa integral, mas que deveriam pagar a tarifa com desconto," Simões noted.

Additionally, Cemig opened applications for the Cemig Agro Solar 24h program, earmarking up to R$ 50 million to help rural producers install photovoltaic systems with battery storage, offering a minimum 60 % bonus to reduce operational costs and increase energy security in the state's agribusiness sector.
