Cemil Tugay resigns from CHP, says he'll join new party

Former İzmir mayor and CHP member Cemil Tugay announced his resignation from the Republican People’s Party, stating that he will take part in a new political party that is being formed.

CHP leader Özgür Özel responded that the party respects Tugay’s decision, noting that there is no expectation for Tugay to return to the CHP in the near term. Özel emphasized that the party remains open to dialogue but will not count on Tugay’s comeback while a new party is being created.
