Centennial of Dario Fo Marked by Performances in Chile and Sardinia

In Santiago, Chile, the Centro Cultural Lo Prado hosted a staging of Dario Fo’s satirical play *Mistero Buffo* to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Actor Matthias Martelli performed under the direction of Eugenio Allegri, with production support from Turin’s Teatro Stabile di Torino – Teatro Nazionale. About 300 spectators attended, and the event was preceded by a masterclass on commedia dell'arte held at the Italian Cultural Institute, organized with local cultural partners.

Meanwhile, in Pula, Sardinia, Jacopo Fo appeared at the La Notte dei Poeti festival, presenting a recital of his father’s rarely heard songs. Accompanied by vocalist Elena Pau, he introduced more than 350 pieces, many broadcast for the first time. Fo described the repertoire as “dure a morire” (hard to die), emphasizing the political satire behind the music and its historic repression under censorship in Italy. The concert aimed to revive the activist spirit of Dario Fo’s work for a new audience.
