Central Balkan National Park wildfire continues near Anton village
Firefighters are battling a wildfire in the Central Balkan National Park above the village of Anton. The blaze, located at an altitude of approximately 1800 meters, has affected over 100 decares of land, including pine forests, heather, and dry grass.
Strong winds and high temperatures have complicated containment efforts, causing the fire to spread down the slopes toward pine forests. At least 30 firefighters and National Park staff are on-site using hoses exceeding 500 meters in length and drainage pumps to reach the flames due to the difficult, high-altitude terrain.
While there is currently no direct threat to nearby residential areas, authorities have restricted volunteers from participating in firefighting efforts due to dangerous wind conditions and smoke. The suspected cause of the fire is a discarded cigarette from blueberry pickers, though an official investigation is ongoing.
