Argentina Central Bank accelerates dollar purchases to boost reserves

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has significantly accelerated its purchase of US dollars. In October, the entity accumulated approximately US$ 914 million, a substantial increase compared to the US$ 474 million acquired in September.

Since the implementation of the fourth phase of its monetary program in January 2026, the BCRA has amassed US$ 15,483 million in net purchases. This figure exceeds the annual target of US$ 10,000 million established with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by more than 50%. The bank's leadership aims to reach US$ 20,000 million by the end of the year to strengthen the nation's external position.

Gross international reserves have surpassed the US$ 50,000 million threshold. This accumulation has been supported by significant inflows from the agricultural sector, which has liquidated over US$ 22,000 million this year, as well as energy exports. Economy Minister Luis Caputo noted that the bank strategically purchases dollars when the market is selling to avoid driving up prices in shallow markets.

In related fiscal news, the Argentine Treasury has announced a debt conversion tender for October 20, allowing holders of dollar-linked notes maturing in October 2026 to exchange them for instruments with maturities in late 2026 or 2027.
