Central Bank of Eswatini Governor promotes STEM and technology

Central Bank of Eswatini Governor Phil Mnisi has called for increased participation of women in science, technology, and innovation (STEM) to help shape the nation’s future. Speaking at the Indaba X forum, Mnisi urged young women to pursue these careers with tenacity and to seek leadership positions based on their capabilities.

During the same event, Mnisi challenged stakeholders to leverage technology, data, and machine learning to build a technology-driven economy. He highlighted existing applications of machine learning in credit, financial inclusion, tax administration, and communications regulation.

Additionally, the Governor announced the reintroduction of the Eswatini FinTech Working Group under the new name, FinTech Forum Eswatini. The forum included presentations from students demonstrating machine learning applications for practical challenges, such as cash flow verification for entrepreneurs and diagnosing cattle skin disease.
