Central Bank of Ireland issues U2 50th anniversary coin

The Central Bank of Ireland has released a commemorative 2-euro coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dublin-based rock band U2. Designed by Irish artist Shaughn McGrath, the coin features the images of the four band members: Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.

Two versions of the coin have been launched: a circulation version for collectors and a silver version. Larry Mullen Jr. attended the presentation at the Little Museum of Dublin, marking the milestone of the band's formation 50 years ago after Mullen posted a notice seeking musicians at his school.

Deputy Governor Vasileios Madouros stated that the coin honors the band’s legacy and their impact on global culture, noting that U2 represents Irish creativity and talent. Over their five-decade career, the group has sold more than 170 million albums and earned 22 Grammy Awards.
