Dominican Republic economy grows 5.6% in September
The Dominican Republic's economy grew by 5.6% year-on-year in September 2026, with an accumulated expansion of 4.6% from January to September. Central Bank Governor Héctor Valdez Albizu reported these figures during the institution's 79th anniversary, noting that the economy is projected to close the year with approximately 4.5% growth.
Key growth drivers included the construction sector (8.2%), financial services (7.8%), hotels, bars, and restaurants (5.6%), and mining and quarries (5.2%). The external sector remained resilient, with tourism revenues reaching US$9.7 billion, exports totaling US$13.2 billion, and remittances exceeding US$9.4 billion during the first nine months of the year.
Inflation moderated to 5.12% in September after peaking at 5.67% in June, though it remains slightly above the Central Bank's target range of 4.0% ± 1.0% due to global energy price pressures. Additionally, the airline Arajet has contributed to regional connectivity, with passenger flow between Mexico and the Dominican Republic projected to grow 423% from 2022 levels to over 398,000 travelers by the end of 2026.
