Central Bank of the Dominican Republic 79th anniversary

Overview

The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic is celebrating its 79th anniversary. The commemorations began with a ceremony led by Governor Héctor Valdez Albizu to recognize 279 employees for their professional dedication and long-term service to the institution.

Following the employee recognition, the bank hosted a “Sólo pianistas” recital at the Juan Pablo Duarte Library. The musical event featured young Dominican students from the National Conservatory of Music and the Círculo de Música de la Ciudad Colonial performing works by classical composers. The bank’s Cultural Department emphasized the importance of these initiatives in supporting national artistic talent.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the bank’s social arm, the Voluntariado Bancentraliano (VB), conducted its 22nd reforestation day. During this initiative, 71 volunteers planted 1,800 trees across two locations. In Yamasá, Monte Plata province, volunteers planted 1,300 cacao and cedar trees in the Los Guineos area of the Loma los Siete Picos National Park, while staff from the Santiago Regional Office planted 500 pine trees in Jánico, Santiago. These efforts were conducted with technical guidance from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Since 2013, these reforestation sessions have resulted in a cumulative total of 59,816 trees planted.

During the anniversary proceedings, Governor Valdez Albizu reported that the Dominican Republic's economy grew by 4.6% for the first nine months of 2026. This expansion was driven by construction (8.2%), financial services (7.8%), and hospitality (5.6%), alongside mining and quarrying (5.2%), local manufacturing (3.4%), and free trade zones (2.8%). External drivers included $13.2 billion in exports, $9.7 billion in tourism revenue, and over $9.4 billion in remittances. While inflation peaked at 5.67% in June, it moderated to 5.12% by September. The Governor projected an annual economic growth of approximately 4.5% by the end of 2026.
