North Macedonia central bank imposes administration on Alta Bank Bitola

The National Bank of North Macedonia has introduced temporary administration at Alta Banka AD Bitola to protect the bank's assets and the interests of its depositors. This decision follows the revocation of the operating license of its majority shareholder, Alta Banka AD Belgrade, by the National Bank of Serbia.

Governor Trajko Slaveski stated that the Bitola-based bank remains highly capitalized, liquid, and meets all supervisory standards. The administrative measures are a preventive response to the situation in Serbia and the reported withdrawal of approximately 2 million euros from the Bitola branch via cash and transfers in a two-day period.

To safeguard the bank, a weekly withdrawal limit of 10,000 denars (approximately 160 euros) has been set for individuals using cards issued by Alta Banka. Internal transfers between accounts for both individuals and legal entities remain unrestricted. The temporary administration is expected to last for a maximum of three months.
