Central Bohemia prepares for winter with salt supplies and new weather stations

Road maintenance authorities in the Central Bohemian Region have completed preparations for the 2024/2025 winter season. The region has secured nearly 45,000 tons of salt and 40,000 tons of inert materials, such as crushed stone. The technical fleet includes over 200 spreaders, 100 tractors with blades, and 76 loaders.

A significant upgrade for this season is the expansion of the meteorological station network. The region now operates 77 stations, an increase of 16 compared to the previous year, with an additional 50 stations shared with the state Road and Motorway Directorate. These stations provide real-time data on weather conditions and icing risks, allowing dispatchers to deploy maintenance equipment more efficiently.

To support these operations, the region continues to invest in salt storage facilities. Recent completions include halls in Rožmitál pod Třemšínem, Slaný, Zbraslavice, and Sedlčany, with new additions in Strnade and repairs in Mochov. This follows a costly previous season where maintenance for second and third-class roads reached 444 million CZK.
