Central Bohemian winter road maintenance preparations

Road maintenance authorities in the Central Bohemian Region have finalized preparations for the upcoming winter season. The Central Bohemian Regional Administration and Road Maintenance (KSÚS) has secured approximately 44,000 to 45,000 tons of salt and 40,000 tons of inert materials, such as crushed stone or grit, to manage road conditions.

The technical fleet deployed for the season includes over 200 spreaders, approximately 100 tractors with blades, and 76 loaders. Maintenance strategies involve a combination of chemical treatments, inert grit, and plowing across more than 8,460 kilometers of roads.

A key development this season is the expansion of the meteorological station network. The region now operates 77 stations, an increase of 16 from the previous year, supplemented by 50 stations shared with the state Road and Motorway Directorate. These stations provide real-time data on precipitation and road temperatures to assist dispatchers. To support these efforts, the region has invested in salt storage infrastructure, including new facilities in Strnade and completed halls in Rožmitál pod Třemšínem, Slaný, Zbraslavice, and Sedlčany.
