Central Bohemian Region announces major infrastructure and transport investments

The Central Bohemian Region is implementing several major infrastructure projects to improve regional services and resilience.

In transportation, the regional assembly approved a 30-year contract for suburban train operations, awarded to Czech Railways. Starting in December 2029, this project will replace aging CityElefant trains with modern, high-capacity units on busy routes serving Benešov, Beroun, Kolín, and Kladno. Additionally, battery-powered trains are being planned for lines such as the Posázavský Pacifik.

To improve road quality, the region has allocated 100 million CZK to its Homogenization Fund. This fund supports municipalities in reconstructing road surfaces to a uniform width following excavation works, rather than merely applying patches. An initial 14 million CZK has already been redistributed to several municipalities, including Chraštice and Český Brod.

Addressing environmental challenges, the region is collaborating with the Ústí nad Labem Region to connect water supply systems in the Rakovník and Louny districts. This initiative aims to mitigate long-term water shortages caused by drought by linking water networks, including a planned connection from the Kadaň area to the Rakovník, Jesenice, and Stebno water systems.
