Central Bohemian road authorities prepare for winter season
The Central Bohemian Regional Administration and Road Maintenance (KSÚS) has finalized preparations for the upcoming winter season, which officially runs from November 1 to March 31. The agency has secured over 44,000 tons of salt and nearly 40,000 tons of inert grit to manage road conditions.
To maintain more than 8,460 kilometers of roads, the agency has placed 204 spreaders, 108 tractors with blades, and 76 loaders on standby. Maintenance strategies vary by road type: approximately 6,750 kilometers will receive chemical treatment, 1,580 kilometers will use inert grit, and 137 kilometers will be maintained through plowing alone.
Technological upgrades include an expansion of the weather station network. The agency now operates 77 stations, an increase of 16 compared to last year, providing real-time data on road temperatures and precipitation to assist dispatchers. Additionally, the region is expanding its salt storage infrastructure, including a new facility in Strnade to accommodate up to 2,000 tons of salt.
