Central Java and East Java Distribute Water Amid Drought

Regional disaster agencies in Indonesia have begun large‑scale water‑relief operations as severe drought grips Central Java and East Java. In Central Java, the provincial disaster agency (BPBD) reported that 654,000 litres of clean water have been distributed to six districts, reaching about 4,800 households (roughly 16,300 people). The agency has prepared a total of 123 million litres of water for the dry season and designated eight areas as emergency drought zones.

In East Java’s Sumenep regency, the local police force has started delivering clean‑water aid to villages identified as most affected. The effort, coordinated with the district disaster agency and social services, targets 70 villages across 19 sub‑districts. Police chief Anang Hardiyanto noted the assistance is part of the 80th Bhayangkara Day outreach and aims to strengthen community safety and resilience.

Both initiatives emphasise cooperation between government bodies, police, and utilities to mitigate water shortages and urge residents to conserve water while awaiting further support.
