Central Java Prepares Drought Mitigation Measures Ahead of Prolonged Dry Season

Deputy chairman of the Central Java regional parliament, Mohammad Saleh, urged the provincial government to develop comprehensive mitigation strategies for an anticipated prolonged dry season. Meteorological forecasts indicate that most of Central Java will enter a four‑ to five‑month drought starting in May 2026. Saleh highlighted the need to protect agriculture, secure clean water supplies, and prevent forest and land fires. He called for early mapping of drought‑prone districts, reinforcement of irrigation systems, enhanced water storage and distribution, and targeted support for farmers. He also emphasized increased coordination among agencies, including the provincial disaster agency (BPBD), and public education on water conservation and fire prevention.
