Central Java prepares for extended dry season in 2026

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned that the peak of the 2026 dry season in Central Java will occur in July and August, with some districts facing up to eight to nine months of below‑normal rainfall. BMKG climatology chief Goeroeh Tjiptanto said the season will generally last five to six months, but parts of Pati and Rembang may experience the longest drought.

In Demak regency, the local disaster‑management agency (BPBD) is readying water supplies and mobilising nearly 500 volunteers. BPBD head Agus Sukiyono said the agency will provide clean‑water to any community affected by water shortages and is intensifying public awareness on fire and drought risks. The agency has mapped vulnerable villages, set up standby posts and coordinated with other agencies to ensure a rapid response should a fire or water crisis arise.
