Central Java receives waste management award for energy conversion strategy
The Central Java Provincial Government has received the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) award for waste and environmental management. The honor was presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Tempo Media Group at an appreciation ceremony in Bali.
Governor Ahmad Luthfi detailed a tiered strategy for managing waste volumes. For regions producing over 1,000 tons of waste daily, the province utilizes a regional agglomeration model to convert waste into electricity (PSEL). This initiative is being developed in collaboration with Danantara and covers areas such as Semarang Raya, Pekalongan Raya, Tegal Raya, and Soloraya.
For smaller waste volumes ranging from 100 to 200 tons per day, the province employs Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology. This method is currently practiced in several regencies, including Cilacap, Banyumas, Kudus, Magelang, and Kebumen, where waste is used as fuel for cement factories. Additionally, Wonosobo Regency was recognized as the top-performing district in this category.
