Semarang hosts 31st National MTQ competition

The 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) is being held in Semarang, Central Java, from September 11 to 20, 2026. The event brings together approximately 7,000 participants and officials from across Indonesia. Central Java authorities have prepared 13 venues, including Simpang Lima and the Great Mosque of Central Java, along with integrated transportation, health services, and accommodation.

To ensure public accessibility, Governor Ahmad Luthfi and Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen have arranged for videotron screens in various locations so citizens can watch the opening ceremony. The event is expected to provide an economic boost to the region, with hotel occupancy in Semarang projected to reach 90 percent. Additionally, a job fair is being held in conjunction with the event, offering positions for various education levels.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that the competition should serve as a momentum for the “living Qur’an,” encouraging participants to embody Quranic values in daily life. This year's event also features increased inclusivity, providing space for people with disabilities to participate.
