Central Kalimantan Police Deploy 500 Officers to Counter Forest Fires
The Central Kalimantan Police (Polda Kalteng) conducted a special readiness drill, Operasi Aman Nusa‑II, on 21 July 2026 to strengthen prevention and response to forest and land fires (Karhutla). Police chief Irjen Pol Iwan Kurniawan announced that 500 personnel have been mobilised and that the force will use its helicopters for aerial patrols, directing local police chiefs to employ the aircraft in their jurisdictions.
The police emphasised coordination with the Indonesian Armed Forces, regional governments, BPBD, Manggala Agni and other agencies, as well as community outreach involving Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa and local fire‑watch groups. Although no suspects have been identified yet, investigations into alleged arson cases are underway.
