Centro Cívico lighting upgrade reduces energy consumption by half

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Water and Energy in Argentina has completed a two-year project to modernize the lighting at the Centro Cívico. Approximately 15,000 fluorescent tubes were replaced with LED technology, reducing the electricity consumption of these fixtures by half. The previous 36-watt fluorescent tubes were replaced by 18-watt LED units.

In coordination with the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, authorities also implemented a specialized treatment process for the decommissioned materials. This involved processing 3.5 tons of old fluorescent tubes stored at the Estadio del Bicentario depot. To manage the hazardous components, a specialized system was used to crush the tubes while an aspiration system captured released mercury vapor and phosphorus.
