Cerro Martial torch descent festival set for Aug 8 in Ushuaia

The provincial government of Tierra del Fuego, together with Cerro Martial and the Instituto Fueguino de Turismo (INFUETUR), will host the 31st edition of the Bajada con Antorchas on Saturday, 8 August 2026. The free event runs from 14:00 to 21:00 in the Parque del Fin del Mundo and celebrates Día del Montañés with ski and snowboard demonstrations, live music, local gastronomy, awards, and a traditional torch descent by more than 120 skiers, followed by a snow‑man burning ceremony.

Organiser Martín Bianchi highlighted the new lift at the ski centre as an additional reason to attend. Shuttle transport will move visitors from a parking area to the base, and officials advise drivers to allow extra time, travel safely, and follow traffic‑control directions.
