CET‑Rio Tunnel Rebouças closure José Alencar Tunnel maintenance Elevado das Bandeiras July 9 traffic disruption

The municipal transit agency CET‑Rio announced scheduled closures on Thursday, 9 July 2026. The Rebouças Tunnel will be shut in the Lagoa direction from 22:00 to 05:00 the following morning for revitalisation works. The Vice‑President José Alencar Tunnel will be closed in the Barra da Tijuca direction from 23:00 to 04:00 for maintenance, with vehicles redirected via the Serra da Grota Funda (Avenida Artur Xexéo). The lower deck of the Elevado das Bandeiras will be closed in the São Conrado direction from 23:00 to 04:30, while the upper deck will carry traffic in that direction.

Motorists are instructed to follow posted signage. CET‑Rio will monitor traffic flow, adjust signal timings and manage alternative routes. BRT buses heading to Barra will use the opposite gallery lane, and those normally traveling toward Santa Cruz will use the common lane.

The agency said the measures aim to maintain traffic fluidity on the city’s main corridors during the works.
