Ceuta faces humanitarian crisis following mass migration influx

Three weeks after a mass irregular entry on July 30, the Spanish enclave of Ceuta continues to face a significant humanitarian crisis. Thousands of migrants remain in the city, many of whom are sleeping in public spaces or forests while waiting for available accommodation.

Local authorities have struggled to manage the influx. The Loma Colmenar temporary facility has reached full capacity, leaving hundreds of people gathered in its surroundings. While the Ministry of Migration reported that 1,800 accommodation spots have been made available, many migrants express fear that entering official centers will facilitate their deportation.

In response to the strain on resources, the National Institute of Health Management (Ingesa) reported providing 604 medical services to migrants over a two-day period. Additionally, a new temporary attention center (CATE) has been established in the Tarajal area to facilitate police identification and processing.

Ceuta's president, Juan Jesús Vivas, has called for unity and serenity among residents, while humanitarian organizations have raised concerns regarding institutional neglect and police conduct during the management of the crisis.
