Ceuta faces supply disruptions after Algeciras customs overhaul

The local party Movimiento por la Dignidad y la Ciudadanía (MDyC) says recent customs changes at the Algeciras port are causing a “blockade” of truck traffic destined for the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The new general circuit forces all vehicles, regardless of destination, to use the same customs channel, ending the differentiated treatment that Ceuta previously enjoyed. MDyC warns this could lead to delays, higher logistics costs and a risk of shortages for residents.

The party has asked the Delegación del Gobierno to intervene with the Subdirección General de Gestión Aduanera to amend Informative Note 02/2026 of 20 January, seeking an exception that would restore the former circuit. The Confederación de Empresarios de Ceuta (CECE) echoed these concerns, describing the situation as “grave economic damage” and urging a swift resolution, otherwise the issue may be taken to the regional Assembly.
