Ceuta fires destroy 42 migrant tents and eight vehicles

A series of fires broke out in Ceuta during the early hours of Friday, causing significant damage to an informal migrant settlement and various urban areas. The most substantial blaze occurred near the Tarajal industrial estate, destroying 42 makeshift tents used by migrants who arrived during the border crisis in late July.

Emergency services, including firefighters, the National Police, Local Police, and military personnel, were deployed to manage the situation. Authorities conducted urgent evacuations of the area to prevent smoke inhalation and ensure the safety of those sleeping nearby. No injuries were reported.

In addition to the camp fire, multiple other blazes were reported across the city, resulting in the destruction of eight vehicles and four trash containers. The fires affected various locations, including areas near the José Ramón Díaz-Flor sports center and several parking lots.

Preliminary investigations by the Spanish National Police suggest the Tarajal fire may have been accidental, potentially caused by a candle, cigarette, or campfire. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the various incidents.
