Ceuta judge investigates disappearance and death of community cats
A judge in Ceuta has launched a judicial investigation into the disappearance and death of community cats across various areas of the city. The investigation follows a complaint filed by the animal rights association Zeolandia, which reported that feline colonies have been displaced and shelters or feeding points have been damaged.
According to the complaint, several cats were found dead with severe injuries, including signs of mutilation or dismemberment. Some animals reportedly appeared to have been pierced by sharp objects or suffered injuries consistent with violent human activity. The incidents are noted to have occurred primarily between August 17 and August 19 in locations such as Huerta Téllez, Carmelitas, Calle Goya, Príncipe, Sidi Embarek, and Punta Blanca.
Magistrate Rubén Salinas has requested that the Civil Guard's Nature Protection Service (Seprona), the National Police, and the Local Police provide information regarding any reports or calls received concerning dead or injured animals. The court has also ordered the collection of evidence, including photographs, videos, and veterinary reports, and has called upon feline colony caretakers to provide testimony to help determine responsibility.
