Ceuta community cat deaths investigation
Overview
A judicial investigation has been launched in Ceuta following reports of the disappearance and death of community cats. The investigation was initiated after the animal rights association Zeolandia filed a complaint alleging that feline colonies were displaced and feeding points were damaged.
Reports indicate that several cats were found dead with severe injuries, including signs of “mutilation or dismemberment.” Some animals appeared to have been pierced by sharp objects or suffered injuries suggesting violent human activity. These incidents were primarily noted between August 17 and August 19 in several locations, including Huerta Téllez, Carmelitas, Calle Goya, Príncipe, Sidi Embarek, and Punta Blanca.
Magistrate Rubén Salinas has requested information from the Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (Seprona), the National Police, and the Local Police. The court has also ordered the collection of evidence, such as veterinary reports and video footage, and has called for testimony from feline colony caretakers to determine responsibility.
