Ceuta migration surge triggers legal surge and sovereignty investigation
The Spanish National Court (Audiencia Nacional) is preparing for a massive influx of legal appeals following the irregular migration surge in Ceuta this past July. National Police estimate that asylum requests could reach approximately 6,000, while the Interministerial Commission on Asylum and Refuge (CIAR) has already processed nearly 1,000 files. This investigation faces challenges regarding international cooperation, as reports indicate that Moroccan authorities have not been facilitating requested information, similar to a lack of response regarding a drug tunnel discovered in March 2025. There are concerns that the lack of cooperation may hinder the ability to investigate whether the migration event was an intentional violation of Spanish sovereignty.
