Ceuta migration crisis results in 141 deaths

A humanitarian crisis has unfolded in Ceuta following a mass attempt by thousands of migrants to cross from Morocco into the Spanish enclave. According to the NGO Caminando Fronteras, at least 141 people died during the attempt on July 30 at the Tarajal border post.

Of the deceased, 78 bodies were recovered in Spanish waters and territory, while 63 were found on the Moroccan coast. The victims include individuals from various African nations, such as Sudan, Eritrea, Guinea, and Ivory Coast, with the majority being young people.

Journalists and researchers have highlighted the desperation driving these migration attempts and criticized the Spanish state administration for allegedly underreporting the death toll and failing to address the lack of food, housing, and protection for those left in the region.
