Ceuta migration crisis: Sexual assaults and shelter tensions reported

Following a mass influx of migrants into Ceuta in late July, local authorities and community organizations are struggling to manage the humanitarian and security crisis. The Asociación Vecinos Príncipe Alfonso has established a temporary shelter in the courtyard of the Reina Sofía school, currently housing approximately 300 girls to protect them from violence in the streets.

Security concerns have escalated, with the Guardia Civil reporting over ten sexual assaults in the city. Police unions have stated that at least 15 rapes have occurred since the migration surge began. In one recent incident on Avenida Lisboa, a group attempted to assault a 10-year-old girl, leading to the arrest of one suspect.

Local residents in the Torre del Tarajal area have expressed growing frustration, reporting daily disturbances including shouting and insults from the Príncipe Felipe school, which is also being used as a temporary shelter. Residents have also raised concerns regarding safety after reporting that several minors have escaped the facility and entered residential buildings.
