Ceuta postpones opening of two nurseries amid migration crisis

The Ceuta government has postponed the opening of two municipal nurseries, Nuestra Señora de África and Juan Carlos I, until at least September 28. The decision affects children aged 0 to 3.

The delay is linked to the ongoing migration crisis in the city following a massive influx of people from Morocco in late July. The Nuestra Señora de África nursery, located in the Loma Colmenar neighborhood, is currently undergoing final preparations including cleaning and furniture installation. This area has seen a high concentration of irregular migrants and has been the site of recent police interventions to control mass access attempts and nighttime clashes between groups.

The Juan Carlos I nursery is currently awaiting the completion of administrative procedures regarding service adjudication. The regional Department of Education, Culture, and Youth stated that the postponement aims to ensure safety, service quality, and proper facilities for students and families amidst the sensitive local context.
