Ceuta: Spain deploys 150+ troops to reinforce border security

Spain has deployed over 150 additional soldiers from the Canary Islands to the autonomous city of Ceuta to reinforce border security amid a significant migration crisis. These troops join an existing force of 3,000 soldiers stationed in the North African enclave to bolster protection at several key points along the border.

The deployment follows a massive influx of approximately 80,000 migrants on July 30 and 31, of whom 70,000 reportedly returned to Morocco. Human rights organization Caminando Fronteras reports that at least 145 migrants died during the mass crossing attempt.

Recently, Spanish security services moved about 1,800 migrants from Trampolin beach to temporary centers. Following their departure, soldiers conducted searches of the area and discovered several weapons. Ceuta's regional leader, Juan Jesus Vivas, stated that while deportations are expected to begin soon, the entire process could take up to a year.
