Ceuta: Spanish authorities dismantle final major migrant settlement

Spanish authorities have completed the dismantling of the last major migrant settlement in Ceuta following an operation at the El Guano site. The intervention, which involved over 350 police officers and military support, targeted a camp housing several hundred people, including approximately 100 minors. This operation marks the conclusion of a phase of evacuations aimed at restoring normalcy in the enclave ahead of a scheduled visit by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia.

Minister of Territorial Policy Ángel Víctor Torres reported that approximately 12,000 migrants have returned to Morocco since August 10. While the large-scale coastal settlements have been cleared, authorities noted that hundreds of migrants remain in the city, often sleeping in neighborhoods like El Príncipe or Los Rosales, or in overcrowded housing.

Reports from the ground have raised concerns regarding the treatment of migrants during the evictions, with some alleging the use of force. Additionally, a government report highlighted systemic challenges, including Morocco's refusal to accept the repatriation of its nationals and difficulties in managing the influx of unaccompanied minors.
