Ceuta reports multiple suspected sexual assaults of migrant minors
Medical and judicial sources in Ceuta report multiple cases of suspected sexual assault involving migrant children following a mass influx of migrants from Morocco. Ceuta University Hospital has treated at least five girls under the age of 14 for suspected rape, with officials noting that the true number of victims may be higher due to unreported cases. In total, more than a dozen cases consistent with sexual assault have been handled by hospital staff.
The situation is compounded by a lack of infrastructure. Emergency physician Susana Ascaso reported that the department is treating between 300 and 400 migrants daily, yet reception centers for minors are at full capacity. This has forced many unaccompanied minors, including girls under 14, to sleep on the streets, significantly increasing their vulnerability to violence and exploitation.
Authorities have identified 1,342 migrant minors in the enclave. While the Ceuta prosecutor's office is investigating at least two specific rape allegations, no arrests have been reported. Local officials, including President Juan Jesús Vivas, have called for increased security and resources, describing the current situation as unsustainable.
