Ceuta suspends 'La Mochila' mountain festival due to security concerns

The government of Ceuta has officially suspended the traditional 'La Mochila' festival in the city's public mountains and natural spaces. The decision, made by the Department of Environment, Urban Services, and Housing, cites the inability to guarantee adequate security and public order for participants.

Authorities stated that the suspension is a response to the presence of migrant settlements in the forested areas. Following mass irregular entries at the border on July 30 and 31, officials estimate that approximately 15,000 people remain in the city in an irregular situation. Technical reports recommend against camping or visiting the mountains due to these security circumstances and the ongoing assessment of environmental damage caused by recent events.

While the traditional mountain festivities are canceled, the city will offer alternative leisure activities. The Renace Ceuta association, supported by the Chamber of Commerce, has organized programming for October 31 and November 1 at the Juan Carlos I Urban Park, the fairgrounds, and the Marina Auditorium, including music, children's activities, and sports.
