Ceuta suspends traditional Dia de la Mochila due to security concerns

The local government in Ceuta has decided to suspend the official organization of the traditional Dia de la Mochila, a significant local event where families gather in natural areas. The decision follows a series of reported incidents, including assaults, brawls, threats, and occupations, which have increased public concern regarding safety in various neighborhoods.

David de la Encina, the Government Delegate in Ceuta, has contested the reasoning behind the cancellation. While respecting the city administration's authority to not organize official events, he rejected the claim that the decision was based on security risks. De la Encina stated that the intensive work of military, police, and Civil Guard forces over the past two weeks ensures that the mountains are safe for citizens to use, calling the suggestion of insecurity a failure to respect the professionalism of state officials.
